Introduction
The International Campus of Physics and Mathematics, as a combination of groups of the University of Cantabria and the Institute of Physics of Cantabria (UC-Spanish National Research Council), stands out for its important teaching and research quality, its international projection and its capacity to provide support, in a transversal manner, to the Campuses of Water and Energy, of Banking, Finance and Business Activities, of Technology, and of Biomedicine and Biotechnology. It provides a solid basis of scientific capacities applicable to many fields, amongst which the following stand out internationally:
  • High energy physics, in association with major international laboratories (CERN and Fermilab) and important experimental developments and with notable scientific calculation infrastructures (Altamira node of the Spanish Supercomputing Network, ICTS).
  • Astrophysics, taking active part in several of the main observatories and space missions in collaboration with international organisations such as the European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Southern Observatory (ESO).
  • Statistical and Non-linear Physics, with important international collaborations.
  • Mathematics, with several groups that stand out for their level of impact in scientific journals, working strongly on computing and modelling.
