Federico Gutiérrez-Solana, Rector of the University of Cantabria was elected yesterday as President of the FAEDYME Foundation. The constituent meeting of the FAEDPYME Foundation Board took place in the Meeting room in the University of Cantabria. This Foundation was set up and approved by the Government Council and the Social Council in the University of Cantabria half-way through 2009.
FAEDPYME was born from the collaboration between the Universities of Cantabria, Murcia and the Polytechnic University in Cartagena, together with the governments of Cantabria and the Region of Murcia, the Santander Group, through UCEIF and Cajamurcia Foundation. The most important objective of the Foundation is to create an International Network of Researchers in PYMES (Small-medium companies), centred primarily in the area of the Ibero-American Community of Nations, which would help researchers share resources, projects and research results which are used and generated in higher education and research institutions, in the fields of economic disciplines and companies applied to Pymes.
After this initial general objective, FAEDPYME has as its most immediate action-lines the elaboration of reports about Pymes and about strategic and competitive sectors in Latin-America, on different geographical levels and areas of interests: to develop education actions and finally to serve as a connection between administration and entrepreneurial fabric in Ibero-America to explore new business opportunities and create companies.
The Board was set up and this was then followed by a video-conference in the Rector Offices in Cantabria and Murcia. Together with Gutiérrez-Solana being appointed as President, the Board was completed with the appointment of the Vice-Presidents, José Antonio Cobacho and Félix Faura, Rectors of the Universities of Murcia and the Polytechnic University of Cartagena respectively and who have now become Vice-Secretaries. Directorae-General will be taken up by Domingo García Pérez de Lema, Polytechnic University of Cartagena, Francisco Javier Martínez García, University of Cantabria, and Antonio Calvo-Flores, University of Murcia.
After the Board was set up and positions were appointed, an extensive order of the day was developed: appointment of members of the Delegate Committee and its setting up: representation and granting of powers; a report from the Directorate-General, detailing the activities currently being carried out and the broad action-lines in 2011 which will be presented for approval at the next meeting of the Board, approval of the corporative image of the Foundation; approval of the International Researchers Network in Pymes (REDIPYMES), as well as the general terms of the agreements to be included in it.
