Public Announcement for Post-Doctorate and Pre-Doctorate Research contracts in the Augusto González Linares (AGL) Programme to Attract International Talent in Strategic Areas, set within the International Campus of Excellence in the University of Cantabria.
Within the general objectives of Cantabria International Campus (CCI), the University of Cantabria (UC from here on), has set up a “Programme to Attract International Talent” called “Augusto González Linares” to Attract International Talent in Strategic Areas (AGL).
This Programme, set within Cantabria International Campus, aims to draw up a way to implement research and transfer groups in Cantabria, which in the short term will develop new lines of research which are considered strategic but which have still not been adequately covered in the current system of science and technology in our community, or strengthen already existing lines, consolidating specific lines of future scope.
It is expected that these groups will be able to make contributions and substantial actions, both in research and transfer, strengthening quality research in these strategic areas and contributing to its transfer to social and productive fabric in general and in particular in our Autonomous Community.
In their area, these groups will be required to provide the capacity to generate a group of researchers and technologists whose activity will have a strong effect and impact on the Science and Technology system in Cantabria and on the regional innovative capacity, framed within the general objectives of CCI, contributing to the achievement of the European Research Area and to the strengthening of Cantabria as a region of knowledge.
On 31st August 2010, the International Public Announcement was published in the Official State Report (BOE) to attract researchers who should head research projects selected in the previous phase in the areas of “Water and Energy”, “Biomedicine and Biotechnology” and “Language and Heritage”. In this Announcement it was established that “With the aim of favouring development of the Projects and consolidating a research nucleus, the UC will additionally provide for each project a maximum of two Post-Doctorate and one Pre-Doctorate contract, with the aim of incorporating researchers in the research group of each recipient for the development of specific tasks. These contracts will be announced in accordance with UC rulings and immediately after incorporation of the corresponding recipient researchers of the Programme”.
In June 2010 on the other hand, the Public Announcement aimed at Researchers in the Higher Council of Scientific Research to head the project: “First Galaxies. Stars, gas and black holes in the dawning of the universe” was decided. This was also framed with the AGL Programme to Attract Talent in Cantabria International Campus.
In order to implement the AGL Programme, once the posts of principal researcher of these previously-mentioned projects have been covered, the current announcement for Post-Doctorate and Pre-Doctorate researcher posts will be published. These will be associated with each of the following AGL projects which are linked to the strategic areas of Water and Energy, Biomedicine and Biotechnology, and Physics and Mathematics.
1) Research into Environmental Hydraulics.
2) Microbial biotechnology and its industrial applications in biomedicine: the development of products which are of interest for our health, especially medicine and other applications.
3) First Galaxies, Stars, gas and black holes in the dawning of the universe.
This current public announcement regulates the researchers being chosen, Post-Doctorate researchers as well as Pre-Doctorate, who will be incorporated in each of the Projects and it will be based on criteria of excellence and efficiency, following the principles of equity, merit and capability.
