Therefore, and in order to mention some of the most important actions, the drafting, analysis and implementation of the Director Plan of Las Llamas Campus has been carried out, la Casa del Estudiante (Tres Torres/Three Towers Building) has been made available to the University community with a budget of 7.6 Million Euros, which made the UC the first Spanish University to implement the project of 'Social Learning Spaces', within the framework of the University modernization. Work on the University Residence “Juan de la Cosa” has also been started, which will mean an investment of 7.6 Million Euros over a 20-month period; progress has been made in the residence project on the Campus in Torrelavega, linked to the extension of the Green Plan on-campus in the city and there will be an imminent tender for the expansion of the IFCA Head Offices, with a planned investment of 1.5 million Euros. At the same time, the UC Green Plan has been developed, as well as the Mobility Plan within the framework of the "Ecocampus Las Llamas 21" Programme, which has also boosted the Energy Efficiency Project and the drafting and development of an Energy Plan. Finally, general improvement in the UC Library service is highlighted within the provision of infrastructure and on-campus services.
In this period, actions connected to promoting entrepreneurial culture also stand out, with the development project of the University Entrepreneurship Strategy, the so-called Social Campus and Campus for Employment. In this area, a huge effort has been made in the management of scholarships for students to carry out work experience (1,914 scholarships in 2011-2012) collaboration scholarships (397 in 2011, and 253 in 2012), as well as obtaining work opportunities (358 employment offers in 2012) and an improvement in employability for graduates. In this area, collaboration with companies has been strengthened, especially in national and international companies.
In relation to the area of Interaction between the campus with CCI territorial environment and knowledge dissemination, the joint strategy between UC and UIMP stands out within the framework of the first edition of Cantabria Campus Nobel, which included the participation of 3 Nobel Prizes, 56 scientists and experts of the highest international level, 100 young researchers (29% of whom were Doctorates) and 25 volunteers. On the other hand, other dissemination initiatives also stand out, such as the Cultural Campus Project, and Science Week, with about 1,300 students from 23 schools, or the Scientific Sumer Campus.
In this line, and following the recommendations of the CEI International Assessment Commission in 2011, a huge effort has been made to involve the University community, through the creation of the UC Area of Participation and Dissemination, which launched the initiative “Spaces for…..” in May 2012 to promote activity within the campus, with a first edition of the so-called “Spaces for Music" or starting-up of the Spaces for Experience project. The UC commitment to collaborate in the World Sailing Championship in Santander 2014 is also highlighted, as well as the organized guided visits to the Institute of Hydraulics in Cantabria.
