Not only the UC, but also UIMP develop and manage different on–line training platforms and initiatives.
The Aula Virtual of Cantabria University, supported by the e-Learning Blackboard Learning System and Moodle, offers 470 courses, in which 530 teachers take part. These figures show the wide participation of teachers and the intensive follow-up of students. This Aula Virtual ¨is integrated in Shared Campus Virtual (CVC ) which belongs to G-9. Its contribution to the G-9 is 15% of the subjects offered by the 9 universities which are involved.
Thanks to the OpenCourseWare (OCW) initiative at the UC, which will be five years old in 2011, the UC is ranked as the third most visited University in Spain .The University OCW offers 100 subjects in its website
http://ocw.unican.es and will offer another 30 before the end of the year. From just less than 2000 visits from individual internet visitors registered in the month of October 2008 , the site had more than 40,000 visits in May 2011 coming from numerous countries, confirming its increasing development.
The quality of the published subjects has been rewarded by different national and international awards. In this way, the subject ´Greek-Roman Mythology ¨ was considered one of the best ten in the world in the awards given by the World Association of Universities OCW( Boston May 2011 ). Several more subjects have been awarded by the Ministry of Education and Universia .
The OCW at UC has increased the number of published subjects and users through progressive growth. It started offering 10 subjects in 2007 and expects to finish the year 2011 offering 130. This fact will place the UC in the group of Spanish Universities with a greater number of subjects. Since 2010, the UC has published complete degrees in OCW, thanks to the collaboration of Teaching Centers and it is also working on the better use of these subjects in the Virtual Campus at the UC.
OCW is characterized for being a free-access and free site, where teaching materials for higher education are published, facilitating their use, consultation and reuse. The materials are published with Creative Commons licenses that allow its use and reuse and the OCW makes sure that the authors are recognized and that there are no profits made from its use. Nowadays, more than 200 Universities are participating and more than14.000 courses are published all over the world.
UIMP has started the UIMP2.0 project to apply the Web 2.0 technology in the creation of knowledge networks which concern some of the topics offered in its courses and seminars. This initiative allows it to keep communication among students, speakers and other people interested in it and contributes to the knowledge dissemination.
Setting up of Aula 2,0 is planned for 2012. This Aula will be part of the CCI International Centre of Postgraduate Studies. It will be located in Las Llamas Campus in Santander. This initiative will allow the development of new teaching models,keeping the maximum standards of quality and promoting the corporative participation of students.
