Progress of the University of Cantabria Student Council and the Student Information and Activation System.

University students play an active role in the CIC, through the design and implementation of a considerable number of activities integrated in the project and which are carried out via the University of Cantabria Student Council. The aim here is to bolster and coordinate the various student assistance services as well as providing a selection of activities for young people.

One of the most relevant actions has been the setting up of the Student Information and Activation System, the aims of which are to create an effective communication channel between the institution and the student body; to become a point of reference for students, where important and useful information will be readily available; to enable and encourage students to take part in building their own environment based upon democratic values and civic responsibility;  to identify the processes that are essential in order to meet student expectations and needs; and to optimize  the services offered and the availability of  resources at the University.

Since its creation in October 2010, the SIAS has coordinated the creation of a university radio station (Radio SIAS), the organization of the student representative elections, a student housing search service and the development of various information projects, such as making the Students’ Statute widely available and making student life on the campus more active.

Other activities of note for the 2010-2011 academic year have been the Unibus Campaign to enable 800 students to make use of public transport;  the Students’ Festival (FESTUC 2010) with a selection of activities meeting different cultural interests, the Campaign for responsible drinking, the encouragement of language exchange groups; participation in the UC’s International Day, and the campaign to promote the feeling of belonging to the University of Cantabria, including the  creation of a photographic book  in which over 1,000 members of the university community took part bearing the words “We’re UC”.
